New Year's Resolutions - I didn't keep a single one!

Happy New Year!

Whether we admit it aloud or not we all set our own personal New Year's resolutions-- I'm going to start going to the gym more frequently, I'm going to spend more time with my family, I'm going to eat better and live a healthier lifestyle, I'm going to be more organized -- just to name a few of mine from 2013. I'm guilty of making and breaking most of these same resolutions year after year.

So what did I manage to accomplish in 2013? Anything on the above list? Nope, not a single one. Do I feel bad about this? Nope, not at all.  Even though I didn't complete a single goal from my 2013 resolution list, I do think I managed to accomplish some pretty amazing things in my personal and professional life.

Here are a few highlights -- EKA launched an incredible new website. I expanded my garden and managed to grow a new type of tomato - still can't seem to grow zucchini, but maybe next year. My husband and I completed some long over-due home painting projects. I helped a family member create a beautiful nursery for her soon-to-be-born baby boy. EKA expanded and enhanced our marketing plans including attendance at a large business expo. I served as Matron of Honor in my best friend's wedding and in spite of my nerves, delivered a pretty awesome speech. EKA placed 2nd for Best Philadelphia-Based Recruiter. Wow. After giving this some thought, I would say 2013 has been a great year at EKA and in the McDermott household! Don't you agree?

So, have I made any 2014 resolutions? Of course! I'm going to start going to the gym more frequently, I'm going to spend more time with my family, I'm going to eat better and live a healthier lifestyle, I'm going to be more organized...sound familiar? Who knows, maybe 2014 will not only be the year of the zucchini, maybe it will also be the year I keep at least one of these!

Rather than thinking about the resolutions we didn't keep or the ones we're about to make, think about the impact you did have in 2013. Be proud of what you've accomplished, learn from the things you could have done better, and forgive yourself for the mistakes you've made.

In addition to my "usual" resolutions, this year I'm going to add a new one - I'm going to start taking my own advice! I'm going to enjoy the people around me, savor the successes, learn from the missteps, and be excited about life!

Best wishes for a happy, healthy, successful 2014!

Sincerely,

Lisa McDermott
